Summary

Banco de Antigua modernized document-handling processes related to customer onboarding and loan origination through the implementation of intelligent document processing (IDP) from Hyland Content Innovation Cloud™, hosted on AWS and integrated with Hyland OnBase™. This hybrid solution improves data accuracy and governance while enabling more agile, customer-centered financial services, supporting the strengthening of financial inclusion in Guatemala.

Challenge

Banco de Antigua faced operational and strategic challenges related to rapid growth and manual document handling. The bank processed high volumes of documents daily for loan origination through manual review and manual data extraction, resulting in slower decision-making than needed, rework caused by missing or outdated documents, limited scalability (from approximately 150,000 pages annually to nearly 1 million), fragmented access to content and increased risk in terms of document retention.

Solution

To address these challenges, Banco de Antigua implemented Hyland IDP through Content Innovation Cloud hosted on AWS, fully integrated via API with the bank’s Credit Suite and OnBase for on-premises enterprise document management.

Documents are sent from the Credit Suite, automatically classified, and metadata is extracted from document types including DPI/national identity documents, income and remittance statements, employment letters and utility bills, among others.

The extracted data is validated for integrity and consistency through automated checks to identify missing, invalid, expired or inconsistent information early in the process.

All processed content is archived and managed in OnBase to centralize digital loan files, enabling the reuse of approved documents, validation of expiration dates and maintenance of regulatory controls.

Results

The implementation of Hyland IDP through Content Innovation Cloud and OnBase reduced manual intervention points, improved accuracy through early validation, minimized downstream errors and rework, and strengthened governance through centralized content management and expiration controls.

The hybrid architecture now supports between 750,000 and 1 million pages annually, scaling processing volumes without increasing staff while improving responsiveness for customers across all regions of the country and establishing a foundation for future AI-driven modernization initiatives.

Future plans

Banco de Antigua plans to expand the solution through gradual enhancements, including broader automation of credit and onboarding workflows; Hyland Knowledge Discovery for internal and external users (procedure guides, policy and product inquiries and account information); expansion of IDP coverage into additional processes beyond credit and onboarding; and continued AI-enabled modernization built on the scalable architecture of Content Innovation Cloud and OnBase to maintain governance, transparency and compliance.
