Hyland has launched Content Federation Service (CFS), a breakthrough advancement that is a foundational element of the Content Innovation Cloud™ designed to connect and empower content ecosystems for organizations worldwide. Allowing for seamless and secure integration of structured and unstructured data across Hyland and non-Hyland repositories, CFS transforms the content ecosystem by enabling comprehensive, end-to-end AI-powered solutions. This builds on Hyland's proven federated technologies, such as Alfresco Federation Services, which have enabled federated content access and in-place governance across diverse repositories since 2020.

“Content Federation Service furthers Hyland’s content federation capabilities, meeting our customers where they are, eliminating barriers to innovation and empowering teams to harness the full potential of their enterprise content with AI automation,” said Michael Campbell, chief product officer at Hyland. “This latest Hyland innovation ensures organizations can properly access the vast amounts of unstructured data stored in many different formats and repositories, activating the knowledge contained in that data to provide a competitive edge.”

What sets Hyland Content Federation Service apart

With a clean, point-and-click interface, the Content Federation Service Admin Portal enables administrators to configure and manage connections to multiple enterprise content repositories such as OnBase and SharePoint Online. The "Connections Available" view provides real-time visibility of integration status, allowing administrators to monitor connectivity, control connections, and ensure seamless access to distributed content.

Unstructured data scattered across countless repositories poses a major challenge for organizations, making it difficult to access, manage, and gain insights from critical information. Hyland is unique in its ability to empower organizations to AI-enable their structured and unstructured content wherever it exists, creating a comprehensive collection of knowledge to power intelligent processes and agentic solutions. With its Content Federation Service, Hyland delivers a unified, scalable solution that simplifies content management and drives digital transformation. This allows organizations to:

  • Access content across disparate systems, from legacy ECM platforms to cloud file shares
  • Manage documents consistently with enterprise-grade governance and security
  • Gain insights from unstructured content using AI and automation applied across federated sources
  • Eliminate the need for costly, high-risk migrations while still modernizing information access and control

Key features of the Content Federation Service

  • Secure seamless connectivity: Supporting connections between Content Innovation Cloud services and both Hyland and non-Hyland repositories
  • No migration required: Interact with and leverage advanced Content Innovation Cloud services while keeping content in its current location
  • Expanded automation: Unlocks distributed data sources for Content Innovation Cloud solutions including Hyland Automate, Knowledge Discovery, Intelligent Document Processing (IDP), Intelligent Medical Records (IMR), and Intelligent Business Correspondence (IBC)
  • Powerful content actions: Leverage CFS connectors to create, search, and retrieve content and metadata, with secure service account user authorization
  • Centralized API and Automate support: New CFS connection actions available for customers via API and Automate Content Connector, including AutoFill and Reverse AutoFill lookups
  • System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) user mapping: CFS supports the SCIM open-standard protocol designed to simplify the management of user identities across multiple platforms.
  • Governance-aligned access control: Reinforces existing compliance, and regulatory needs, through security and end-to-end authorization

Content Federation Service is now included as a core component with every Content Innovation Cloud subscription, with additional repositories being added going forward. Administrators can easily configure federated repository connections through the Content Federation Admin Portal, making advanced AI-powered automation accessible and secure.
