A Dutch health system was undergoing a transition to a unified IT infrastructure that included migrations to an Epic EMR and a vendor neutral archive (VNA).
The health system faced several key challenges as it attempted to transform its enterprise imaging workflows:
> Learn more | How connected data can help improve patient outcomes
An independent study recommended Hyland Acuo, a VNA solution, and NilRead, Hyland’s universal diagnostic viewer.
The implementation process involved close collaboration with Hyland's technical experts, who provided comprehensive training and support as the health system consolidated PACS archives and integrated new systems.
The health system now relies on NilRead to provide secure, cross-enterprise image viewing on multiple devices. Hyland’s universal diagnostic viewer seamlessly integrates with Epic for enhanced workflows.
And with Acuo, the health system has centralized archiving for disaster recovery and data migration. The new VNA provides XDS support for regional image sharing and helps the health system meet security and regulatory requirements.

The successful enterprise imaging transformation reinforced the importance of user training and change management to overcome resistance. It also showed the need for robust technical support during implementation.
The health system recommends that organizations considering similar changes align their imaging solutions with strategic goals and interoperability standards.
The top goals of healthcare leaders often are at odds with their current reality. Explore interesting insights from HIMSS Market Insights’ annual survey — including why unstructured documents and images remain a significant concern (the numbers tell quite a story).
Looking ahead, the organization plans to expand its use of Hyland solutions to support emerging trends in healthcare imaging. Among the possibilities is exploring the use of AI-powered tools for advanced diagnostics and decision support, along with a greater emphasis on interoperability and regional image sharing.
Are disconnected systems making it difficult to access and manage medical images? Is unstructured data a major obstacle to interoperability? We can help.
With Hyland’s content intelligence and enterprise imaging solutions, health systems can integrate images and unstructured clinical content within EHR workflows. By improving efficiency, reducing costs and enhancing outcomes, you’ll maximize your investment and make a real difference.
