The High School Innovation Showdown is a team competition that tasks students to use their creativity to come up with an innovative concept that could solve a real-world problem.

Spring 2024 Innovation Showdown

The High School Innovation Showdown is a team-based competition where students work together under the mentorship of Hyland employees to develop new concepts aimed at solving real-world issues. Partnering with Hyland mentors, teams will conduct brainstorming sessions, come up with project plans and work together to showcase their idea effectively in a competitive setting. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams. Each member of the 1st Place Team will also receive a $500 scholarship!

Please Note: Only students currently located in the United States are eligible to participate.

Team requirements

  • Teams can be comprised of 2 (minimum) to 5 (maximum) students each
  • Teams of students must be from the same school
  • There can be more than 1 team from the same school in the competition

Only one person per team is required to submit a registration form. When completing the form, information must be filled out correctly for each member of your team. The registration form asks for the following information:

  • Team member names and contact information
  • Team member grades
  • Parent/guardian names and contact information
  • Faculty advisor contact information

Kick-off meeting

  • Majority of the team needs to be present at this meeting
    • If your team absolutely cannot attend this date, we may be able to schedule an alternative date and time for your group
  • Teams will get a chance to meet with their Hyland Mentor to brainstorm ideas and come up with project plans

First round

Teams work together with the guidance of their mentor to create a 2-3 minute video pitch of their idea, which is due by 11:59 p.m. ET, Monday, March 18.

Second (final) round

Teams will work on creating a product demonstration of their innovative idea, which will be given to a panel of judges on Wednesday, April 17 at Hyland’s Headquarters or virtually via Zoom.

  • Only a mock-up of the prototype/idea is required, teams do not need to produce a complete product
