Hello, and welcome back to the Building your X factor series!

Quick reminder: We hosted a roundtable interview with Xander Schauffele, the PGA’s No. 5 ranked pro golfer and Hyland’s brand ambassador. Led by Mike Tirico, sportscaster at NBC, the chat also included Stefan Schauffele, Xander’s father and coach, as well as Ed McQuiston, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Hyland.

In part one, we talked about making meaningful connections with data. Today, we take a look at aspects of how, as a young CEO at 27 years of age, Xander leads his team.

Right off the bat, Mike brings up a great point that we all need to remember when things get tough, although it’s also applicable to people performing at the highest levels.

“It’s not just you,” said Mike. “You’re on a team.”

Buzzword Alert!

Ah yes, team. We hear that word a lot these days. But we always have.

After all, “a group of people acting together to bring suit” dates back to the 1520s, according to the Online Etymology Dictionary. Also of note, the phrase “team player” comes from baseball in 1886. Then, “team spirit” showed up in 1928.

So, especially in light of so many people working remotely, is the true meaning of “team” starting to lose significance and just become a word people throw out into the wind?

Nope.

“It’s easy to look at the score and the name attached to it,” said Xander. “But, as individual as golf is, I look at it as a team effort.”

Maybe someday the PGA will start putting the word “Team” in front of golfer’s names. That would be cool. Throw a little team spirit in there, if you will.

Working with other experts toward an established, shared goal will probably never go away. But as a leader, how do make your team the best team?

“There are so many moving parts, so it’s important to make sure everyone is on the same page,” said Xander.

The Right Information

Making sure everyone is following the same plan is great, but how do you really do that? Especially when some workforces are still remote and the amount of information pouring into our organizations never stops. Ever.

It all starts with easy access to the right information.

After all, when Xander is about to tee off, he doesn’t want to know how windy it was yesterday. He wants to know how windy it is now. To do that, he needs access to current information.

An Empowered Team

That’s what we’re all about.

Whether you’re already working with us, or you’re just starting your digital transformation journey, we’ve been helping organizations not only manage and access their data, but use it to make more-informed decisions since 1991.

At Hyland, we believe technology should transform the way you work, so everyone is more informed, empowered, and connected. That’s how your team wins.
